Stephen D. Whetstone is an Executive Managing Director in Stroz Friedberg’s Boston office and the leader of the firm’s global Electronic Discovery & Disclosure (EDD) practice.  Stroz Friedberg is a widely-recognized premium provider of legal discovery services, levering its data centers and teams in the US, UK and Switzerland.  EDD offers proprietary technologies, like its NOMAD mobile processing and hosting solution; Privilege Analytics auto-identification module; and PII and PHI Extract auto-recognition and extraction tool; and leading third party technologies, like Relativity and Nuix.

With his extensive business, legal and technology background spanning over 25 years, Mr. Whetstone has the distinction of being among the first AmLaw 100 law firm equity partners to join and lead an eDiscovery provider business.

Prior to joining Stroz Friedberg, Mr. Whetstone was a Vice President at Pitney Bowes, where he led both the $100M+ Legal Solutions business and $50M+ Document Management Solutions business.

Previously, Mr. Whetstone was General Manager of Iron Mountain Legal Discovery (f/k/a Stratify, Inc.), specializing in advanced cloud-based eDiscovery technology and services. In earlier roles, he led Iron Mountain’s Records and Information Consulting Practice, and Stratify’s Client Development & Strategy and Service Delivery teams. During this time, he also opened and managed Stratify’s Boston and London offices.

Before joining Stratify’s executive team in 2005, Mr. Whetstone was an equity partner and litigator at Testa Hurwitz. For 11 years he represented clients in securities class actions, government and internal investigations, patent and IP matters, and other complex litigation that often turned on analyzing large volumes of electronic and hard copy data.

Mr. Whetstone began his legal career as a litigator at Skadden, focusing on securities class action pre-trial and trial work, as well as electronic and hard copy document review and motion practice, among other areas.

Prior to law school, Mr. Whetstone spent several years working with media and in the political arena, serving as Chief-of-Staff for former Massachusetts State Senator and Congressman John W. Olver.
