Stephanie Skaff is chair of Farella Braun+ Martel’s Intellectual Property Litigation Department. She represents companies in complex litigation involving intellectual property, technology, privacy and licensing issues.

Ms. Skaff'’s clients benefit from her knowledge of and credibility with the state and federal court benches gained through her roles as a past president of the Bar Association of San Francisco and as a former co-chair of the Northern District of California Lawyer Representatives Committee.

Ms. Skaff is regularly chosen as lead counsel for patent infringement and other intellectual property actions venued in jurisdictions around the country, including the Northern District of California, the Eastern District of Texas, Delaware and other federal jurisdictions.  She represents clients in actions involving computer hardware, software, internet search and applications, mobile devices, gaming, financial services, encryption, networking and database technology. Her clients include well-known companies like Google and Dell, and also smaller technology companies and individuals battling significant litigation disputes.

Ms. Skaff has successfully represented a number of clients in high profile commercial actions. She represented the City and County of San Francisco in a highly-publicized, multi-million dollar commercial fraud case involving the construction of the San Francisco International Airport and, in another case, helped obtain what continues to be the largest recovery to date under the California False Claims statute — a $187.5 million settlement of a fraud action brought against a large national bank.

Ms. Skaff is a founding member of the Resource Board of the National Association of Women Judges, a former barrister and associate in the Edward J. McFetridge Inn of Court, and a past co-chair of the ABA Litigation Section’s Intellectual Property Roundtable Committee.

She is named to Managing Intellectual Property’s list of IP Stars in California and to its global list of the Top 250 Women in IP for 2016.  The Daily Journal named her among the Top 75 Intellectual Property Litigators in California in 2015. The San Francisco Business Times named her among the Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business in 2014 and to its Forever Influential Honor Roll in 2016. She is listed as a leading patent litigation practitioner in California in IAM Patent 1000 (2014-2015). She has been recognized by The Recorder as one of its 50 Women Leaders in Tech Law in California from 2013 to 2015, and among its Women Leaders in Law in California in 2012.  In 2006, she was chosen by the Daily Journal as one of California’s Top 20 Lawyers Under 40 and she has been repeatedly listed among Northern California Super Lawyers.

Ms. Skaff received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where she was an editor on the California Law Journal, elected to the Order of Coif and received the Stephen P. Jameson Award for Scholarship and Advocacy. She clerked for the Honorable D. Lowell Jensen of the United States District Court, Northern District of California. She has a background in database design and programming and, prior to law school, worked for a large public accounting firm in Los Angeles, California.
