Stacy A. Skorupa received her Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Communication and Philosophy with a Criminal Justice minor from the University of Scranton in 2002 and her JD from Seton Hall Law School in 2005.  During her final year at Scranton, she was hired as the Private Complaints Coordinator for the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office in Scranton, PA following a successful internship there.  During law school, Ms. Skorupa worked as a paralegal with the Manhattan DA’s Office, taking a leave for one summer to work for the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York in their criminal satellite office in Binghamton, NY.  Stacy is admitted to practice law in both New York and New Jersey and, upon graduation from law school in August 2005, went to work for the Suffolk DA’s Office. 

For the last three-plus years, Ms. Skorupa has worked in the Special Investigations Bureau prosecuting high-level felony cases involving guns, gangs and organized crime, including sex trafficking cases.  Her specialty in Special Investigations is sex trafficking and prostitution-related cases.  She recently prosecuted the first Sex Trafficking case to be tried in Suffolk County history since the statute’s enactment in 2007 which resulted in a guilty verdict. For her work on that case, Stacy received the Special Recognition Award from the Suffolk Detectives’ Association.  Prior to her time in Special Investigations, she spent 2 ½ years in the Major Crime Bureau where she prosecuted high-level non-gang-related felonies such as shootings, stabbings, assaults, robberies, burglaries, rapes, DWIs, etc. and tried numerous felonies.  In her first 3 ½ years in the office, Stacy spent time in both the District Court and Case Advisory Bureaus.  As an aside, for the past four years, she has also been the ADA in charge of all felony animal cruelty prosecutions in Suffolk County.
