Smeeta Ramarathnam is the Deputy Director of the Office of Credit Ratings, where she provides leadership and direction for various office activities including annual and targeted examinations, the international supervisory colleges of credit rating agencies, and other related initiatives. Smeeta joined OCR in September 2015 after serving for seven years as Chief of Staff for SEC Commissioner Luis Aguilar. In that capacity, Smeeta led the Commissioner’s office, where she worked on complicated, unprecedented, legal and policy issues arising in all manner of SEC matters. Before her appointment to Commissioner Aguilar’s staff, Smeeta served as counsel to former Commissioner Roel Campos, and as a senior counsel in the Office of the General Counsel and in the Division of Investment Management. Prior to joining the SEC, Smeeta worked in the securities practice of an international law firm. Smeeta has also served as law clerk to Honorable Deborah Chasanow, Judge, U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Smeeta earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School and undergraduate degree with honors from Stanford University.
