Sheniece J. Smith

Children's Hospital Of Orange County

Orange, CA, USA

Sheniece Smith is Associate General Counsel for Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and is responsible for the daily operations of the Legal Department, including general corporate matters and health care specific matters. Sheniece provides legal counsel to the organization’s leaders through direct advice and oversight of outside counsel on strategic initiatives and various risk issues.  She also advises on best practices and represents the hospital in discussions with government agencies and other third parties.

Sheniece is a true advocate for making legal services available to those who need it most. In pursuit of this goal, Sheniece established the Family Legal Assistance at CHOC Children’s clinic offering free legal services to CHOC patients for conservatorships and guardianships. As the president and founder of H.O.P.E. Through Affordable Legal Services, she makes pro bono and low bono legal services available to those who would otherwise not be able to afford an attorney.

Sheniece does an extensive amount of pro bono work, participates in many MCLE presentations, and regularly speaks to students about career development. Her efforts to increase justice and make a positive impact in her community have earned her the Wiley W. Manuel certificate from the State Bar of California, the AHLA Pro Bono Champion Award, as well as the Women Making a Difference Award from Senator Lou Correa.  Most recently, Sheniece received the 2015 Business Person of the Year Award from the Black Chamber of Commerce of Orange County for her leadership in the community.
