Sharon Hwang practices in all areas of intellectual property law with particular emphasis on patent litigation. For more than twenty years, Sharon has successfully represented parties in high-stakes patent litigation in federal district courts, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. In 2013, Sharon and a team of McAndrews attorneys secured a $70 million lost profits damages award on behalf of a medical device company in a patent infringement case tried before a jury in the Western District of Michigan.  That jury verdict was one of National Law Journal's Top Verdicts of 2013.  In late 2014, Sharon argued before the Federal Circuit and won an affirmance of that award.  In late 2015, the United States Supreme Court granted Sharon's petition for certiorari on an issue pertaining to the Federal Circuit's reversal of the district court's treble damages award under 35 U.S.C. §284.  In 2016, the Supreme Court found in favor of Sharon's client and clarified the law regarding the availability of enhanced damages in patent cases.  In July, 2017, on remand from the Supreme Court and the Federal Circuit, the district court once again awarded treble damages and attorney fees, entering a $254 million judgment in favor of Sharon's client.

Sharon has been selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer and IP Star every year since 2015 and was previously honored by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association as one of its "Best Lawyers Under 40."  In 2015, she received the Sandra R.
