Scott Joachim is Chair of the Private Equity Group of Fenwick & West LLP.  He regularly represents private equity sponsors (including buyout funds, growth equity funds, venture capital funds and hedge funds) and the companies partnering with those sponsors in connection with buyouts, “going private” transactions, carve-out acquisitions, add-on acquisitions, divestitures, recapitalizations, growth equity/structured minority equity financings, debt financings, joint ventures and other strategic transactions. He also represents public and private companies in connection with M&A and capital raising transactions and on general corporate matters.

While Scott often represents private equity sponsors investing across a wide spectrum of industries (including, among others, consumer, apparel, business services, healthcare services and manufacturing), his practice is particularly distinguished by its focus on representations of sponsors investing in technology companies.  He has substantial experience representing private equity sponsors in transactions across various growth sectors within the broader technology industry, including, among other sectors, software (enterprise/consumer and SaaS/traditional licensing models), e-commerce, social media, networking and communications, gaming and Internet content.

Scott was honored as a 2013 Northern California Super Lawyer by Super Lawyer Magazine.  He has served as an adjunct professor at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law where he has taught a course entitled “Mergers & Acquisitions: Law and Practice”.  He also serves on the faculty of the Practising Law Institute, where he regularly speaks on M&A topics.

Scott earned his law degree, cum laude and Order of the Coif, from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1997, where he served as managing editor of the Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal.  He earned his B.A. from State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1993.
