Roger G. Brooks is a partner in Cravath's Litigation Department. His practice covers a wide range of courtroom litigation for technologically intensive companies, including disputes concerning trade secrets, standards-driven technology licensing, patents, software copyright, and technology-related antitrust claims. Roger is currently lead counsel for Qualcomm Inc., defending against patent claims directed against GPS functionality in cellular phones, and in two separate cases against allegations that Qualcomm and others violated antitrust laws in the course of the development of the 4G LTE cellular standard within the 3GPP organization, and has represented Qualcomm in numerous other disputes. Roger has successfully represented a quantitative hedge fund in an action against former employees to protect the mathematical trade secrets underlying the client's computerized trading strategy, and advises other clients on global strategy for the protection and enforcement of trade secrets. Roger represented IBM in its defense against allegations that the open-source Linux operating system violated copyrights held by the SCO Group, and advises clients concerning the interactions between open source software and proprietary intellectual property.
