Mr. Kuan is currently Director, IP Counsel at Thermo Fisher Scientific with responsibility overseeing patents, trademarks, designs, trade dress, and trade secret management and monetization for technologies including Benchtop Instrumention, Flow Cytometers, Imaging Devices & Microscopes, Cell Culture Media/Bioproduction, Bioinformatics, Genomic Sequencing Platforms, Graphic User Interfaces, and Business Methods.  He has over 10 years of experience in IP strategy/management, preparation & procurement, monetization, agreement preparation, risk recognition & mitigation, dispute resolution, litigation, and due diligence. During his tenure at Thermo Fisher, he has grown & defended Thermo Fisher’s IP portfolio, assisted with litigation-related matters, performed due diligence on M&A deals/targets, and resolved disputes.

Mr. Kuan earned a B.S. in Toxicology from University of California, Davis, a M.S. in Environmental Engineering (with an emphasis in Biochemical Engineering) from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (CalPoly-SLO) and a J.D. from Santa Clara University.  Prior to joining Thermo Fisher, he was an associate with the international law firm of Baker & McKenzie where he represented clients from a wide range of industries (e.g., medical device, software, semiconductor fabrication, telecommunications, chemistry, laboratory instrumentation, computer hardware, etc.) in patent prosecution and litigation matters.  Before transitioning his career into the legal industry, Mr. Kuan was employed with several Fortune 500 pharmaceutical, chemical and medical device companies such as FMC Corporation, Sanofi-Aventis, and Johnson & Johnson (LifeScan Division) where he held professional positions in the R&D, Sales and Regulatory Affairs organizations.
