Robert J. O’Hara

Former SVP of Member Engagement and Assistant General Counsel for CWC
Simsbury, CT, USA

Bob O'Hara advises employers on all aspects of employment law, Human Resources and workplace compliance.  He specializes in sensitive workplace investigations, executive terminations and government audits and is a nationally recognized expert in federal and state employment law. He also has extensive experience in international employment matters, particularly in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Bob has more than 23 years of professional experience in employment law.  He is an experienced trial lawyer (both jury and bench) in employment discrimination and commercial law matters.  His early legal career included bankruptcy and creditors rights, employment, commercial and environmental litigation and appellate work at the state and federal level with the largest law firm in Connecticut.

For 18 years Bob managed employment law and compliance for a Fortune 50 company of 225,000 employees operating in more than 150 countries. He has successfully defended more than 350 compliance audits with the Department of Labor, OFCCP and Wage & Hour divisions.

As an advocate, Bob is well known as a practical problem solver who zealously defends his client and the Federal contractor community with the US Government. He is recognized by the Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, and other agencies as a leading voice for Federal contractors.  For example, he was in the forefront of the debate over new disability regulations (Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, the EEO-1 Part 2 report, and the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces (“Blacklisting”) Executive Order).

He represented his former company as a board member and chair of the Equal Employment Advisory Council (now CWC) for 12 years.

He is a much sought after speaker and trainer with the American Bar Association (Section of Labor and Employment, National EEO Committee and International Labor and Employment sections) and the American Employment Law Council.  He also conducts training for the Practicing Law Institute.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Bob spent 13 years at the National Security Agency in a number of intelligence positions, including more than two years in the White House as the chief intelligence analyst for the National Security Council, as well as assignments in the Pentagon supporting the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the US Treasury Department Office of Legal Counsel.

Bob earned a BA in History and English from Walsh University, North Canton, Ohio; an MS in Strategic Intelligence from the Defense Intelligence College, and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center both in Washington, DC.
