Bobby Greenfeld is of counsel in Steptoe’s New York office and specializes in intellectual property litigation, prosecution, and client counseling. His experience includes all aspects of litigation, from case management and pre-litigation evaluation to motion practice, trials, and appeals, including in Federal District courts, the US International Trade Commission, and New York State courts. He has litigated and prosecuted matters covering a broad range of technologies, including consumer electronics, software systems and databases, telecommunications, semiconductors, medical imaging, business methods and e-commerce, mechanical systems, photography and xerography, chemicals, pharmaceuticals (Hatch-Waxman), bioengineering, and surgical instruments.

Apart from his litigation experience, Mr. Greenfeld is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Ofiice (PTO) and has deep experience in all aspects of PTO practice. In addition to managing the prosecution of high-value patent applications, he has pursued numerous PTO appeals and has played a key role in several interferences. Mr.

Greenfeld has also been involved in post-grant review proceedings, including ex parte reexaminations, inter partes reviews, and covered business method proceedings.

During law school, Mr. Greenfeld served an internship for the Hon. Robert Patterson of the US District Court, Southern District of New York. Prior to law school, he worked as an engineer at AT&T Bell Labs developing and testing undersea and terrestrial fiber optics telephone systems. Before that, Mr. Greenfeld performed graduate research in electrical engineering, with a concentration in biophysics, at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a master’s degree and published papers in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA and Analytical Biochemistry, as well as a chapter in Photon Migration in Tissues. As an undergraduate at MIT, Mr. Greenfeld majored in electrical engineering, with a concentration in bioengineering.  He has been registered as a Professional Engineer in New York State since 1992.

Mr. Greenfeld is a member of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association (NYIPLA) and has been co-chair of the NYIPLA Publications Committee since 2011. He has also appeared on Jeopardy!.®
