Robert F. Cekuta became Deputy Assistant Secretary in September 2010, assuming responsibility for U.S. and global energy security issues, development/implementation of sanctions policies and programs, and matters concerning the production and availability of key commodities.  Having previously overseen U.S. economic relations with two of the world's largest economies - Germany and Japan - Bob has also had assignments in Afghanistan, Albania, Austria, Iraq, South Africa, and Yemen as well as in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and in the State Department.  In addition to energy matters, Bob has worked extensively on trade and on economic development and assistance.
