With almost 20 years of experience, Richard Bone practices in all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution, particularly in chemical and biological arts and complex and cross-disciplinary technologies, such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, materials science, nanotechnology, medical device and computer/algorithm-based inventions. 

Richard’s experience includes counseling clients in worldwide patent portfolio strategy and management, as well as rendering opinions in patentability, patent invalidity, non-infringement and freedom to operate issues. He also has experience with design patent preparation and prosecution, and has represented clients in inter partes review proceedings at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Richard earned his juris doctorate degree at the Santa Clara University School of Law, where he was an editorial board member of the Santa Clara University Law Review. He obtained both his PhD in theoretical/computational chemistry and bachelor’s degree in natural sciences from the University of Cambridge.
