Philip Porter helps companies structure and negotiate domestic and international IT, telecommunications, and business process outsourcing (BPO) transactions and assists them with the acquisition and commercialization of technology and information. He represents companies of all sizes, from small startup operations to multinational corporations.

Philip has helped companies acquiring technology and information to identify proprietary rights in the materials to be acquired and verify the true owners of rights in these materials. He has also served as lead counsel in numerous domestic and multinational outsourcing transactions and, in that role, has assisted clients with selection of service providers and has led negotiations that have culminated in the closing of numerous outsourcing transactions.

Philip has counseled clients seeking to commercialize their intellectual property through joint ventures, strategic alliances, corporate partnering, assignment, licensing, and many types of consulting services. He has completed numerous domestic and international transactions for the commercialization of computer hardware and software, biotechnology, electronic commerce, data, and publications in print, on the Internet, and through commercial online services.

Philip was an adjunct professor during the 2002-2003 academic year for the graduate course "Commercialization of Biotechnology" at Johns Hopkins University, as well as a member of the faculty of the annual Advanced Computer Law Institute sponsored by the Georgetown University Law Center from 1990 to 1999. He currently serves on the Committee on Publications of the National Association of College and University Attorneys. Philip has been recognized by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business as one of the leading lawyers in the United States in intellectual property transactions. According to the 2005 guide, Philip "balances a sense of industry and business practice with legal knowledge" and "has comprehensive and up-to-date IP acumen" and "clients appreciate his accessibility."
