Peter Krakaur

As the firm's Chief Knowledge Officer, Mr. Krakaur is responsible for the strategic direction of Orrick's knowledge management initiatives on a global basis. He leads the knowledge management, business intake & conflicts, extranet & client collaboration, and legal project management departments in support of the practice and business of law.

By way of example, he guides the organization and management of standard legal forms and clauses, the development of expertise systems, and the organization of client work product on a client- and matter-centric basis.  He leads other initiatives to support of the firm's fee arrangement strategy, exchanging knowledge about our engagements throughout the firm and directly with clients.

Before joining Orrick in 2003, Mr. Krakaur served as Chief Knowledge Officer and a knowledge manager and of counsel at other law firms in San Francisco, California.  In the late 1990's, he served as the Director of Strategic Alliances of FindLaw, Inc., an Internet legal portal. As President of Internet Legal Services since 1995, Mr. Krakaur has also offered consulting services to large law firms designing law firm Web and intranet sites. He started his legal career in 1989 an associate in a large San Francisco firm offering clients environmental litigation and counseling advice.

Since 1996, Mr. Krakaur has published LegalEthics.com (www.legalethics.com), a comprehensive resource focusing on the ethical issues associated with the use of the Internet and Internet technology by legal professionals.

He is a frequent lecturer on knowledge management, legal project management, ethics, and Internet use by legal professionals.
