Olivia Luk Bedi is recognized as one of the premier intellectual property trial lawyers in the country, representing individuals and corporations in high profile federal and state cases. Olivia has proven herself as an experienced litigator and is the only female shareholder at her firm – Niro Law in Chicago.

Olivia has briefed and argued a patent appeal at the Federal Circuit. Last year, she tried two patent infringement jury trials at the Northern District of Illinois. She also recently tried a federal trademark infringement case in the Ninth Circuit in Phoenix, Arizona. Olivia represented Silvonus Shannon, a Chicago high school student charged with first degree felony murder in the high-profile case of People v. Shannon. The case received national attention after a videotape of the beating went viral. After defending him in the jury trial, Olivia went on to file a number of appeals in the case. To date, she has not given up on him and remains close with his family.

Olivia has been recognized by numerous professional organizations locally and nationally: Illinois Super Lawyers as a Super Lawyer in Intellectual Property Litigation 2014-2016; “Rising Star” in Intellectual Property Litigation from 2009-2013; Emerging Lawyer in Illinois 2015; “40 under Forty Top Lawyers in Illinois” in 2014; Managing Intellectual Property Magazine’s 2014 Top 250 Women IP Attorneys List; and YWCA’s New Look of Leadership 2014 Fashion Show at Macy’s. Olivia was awarded the American Inns of Court Sandra Day O’Connor Award for Professional Service in 2011. She also received the first “Linn Inn Alliance Distinguished Service Medal” that year.

In the area of professional service, Olivia co-founded the Richard Linn American Inn of Court in Chicago and is a Past-President. She currently serves as Executive Director. She recently co-founded LIPS (Ladies in IP Society) to promote mentoring and networking among the female IP bar in Chicago. Olivia also serves on leadership committees for the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois and the prestigious Economic Club of Chicago.

Olivia is also active in civic matters: she is on the Chicago Founders Council of the American Writers Museum, the Board of the Chicago Inventors Organization, and the Heshima Kenya Fashion Show Committee dedicated to helping refugee women and children in Nairobi.

Olivia received a Chemistry degree from the Georgia Institute in Technology in 2000. She received her law degree from the American University Washington College of Law in 2005. Olivia was also a patent examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office for five years in the area of semiconductor manufacturing.
