Norman Solovay

The Solovay Practice
Managing Partner
New York, NY, USA

Norman Solovay had a long, distinguished litigation career which included many arbitrations and then mediations and to his authoring several books on alternative dispute resolution.  He has a still-growing reputation as a promoter and practitioner of the increasingly popular settlement techniques of Collaborative Law and Med-Arb, and now recommends using Med-Arb for dealing with various types of disputes.  These include resolving Collaborative Law impasses without requiring the lawyer to withdraw, as well as family, probate, entertainment, partnership and other disputes where mediation’s benefits of interest based negotiations are wanted but a final resolution is essential.  Moreover, his appointment to form and head the US branch of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce which followed a program on mediation he presented in India led to his promoting the use of Med-Arb to resolve international disputes while providing an arbitral award enforceable under the NY Convention at a fraction of the typical time and cost of the international arbitrations previously deemed essential for that purpose.
