Nina Loewenstein is a Senior Staff Attorney in Disability Rights New York’s Protection & Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI) program.    Since 2001, she has worked at Disability Advocates, Inc., (DAI) which conducted protection and advocacy (P&A) work in a regional capacity until June 2013.   In June 2013, DAI was designated New York’s P&A system, assumed the name Disability Rights New York, and has since expanded to undertake P&A work statewide.  She was DAI’s primary attorney on the lawsuit DAI v. NYS Office of Mental Health et al. which challenged the adequacy of mental health treatment in New York state prisons and SHU conditions for prisoners with serious mental illness. Nina is a graduate of New York University School of Law and holds a Master's of Public Health from Boston University.
