Naomi Schrag

Naomi Schrag is Columbia University’s Associate Vice President for Research Compliance and Training and the University's Research Integrity Officer. She leads the University-wide Office of Research Compliance and Training (RCT) to helps ensure that Columbia faculty and staff are in compliance with the complex web of regulatory requirements that govern research. RCT collaborates with many of the other offices foster an integrated research compliance program. RCT administers the University’s conflict of interest review process for research, serves as a resource for international research compliance issues, and administers Columbia’s Standing Committee on the Conduct of Research, which addresses issues of research misconduct. RCT also is responsible for export control compliance in research and leads grants management compliance initiatives and other programs. RCT works to integrate compliance education programming across the University, and to develop new programming that promotes understanding of compliance issues throughout the research enterprise.

Before joining Columbia in January 2006, Ms. Schrag practiced law for nine years at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP, focusing on false advertising litigation, regulatory compliance and litigation involving biomedical research, with clients including pharmaceutical companies and not-for-profit organizations. Ms. Schrag also clerked in the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Ms. Schrag graduated from New York University School of Law in 1995.
