Nancy Markowitz

Nancy Markowitz has served as the Deputy Director for the Exchange and Data Repository branch within the Division of Market Oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission since August 2011. In this role, she supervises a professional staff responsible for the consideration and approval of applications from registered entities, including designated contract markets, swap execution facilities, foreign boards of trade and swap data repositories. In addition, Ms. Markowitz supervises the continued compliance of the registered entities through the review of rules filed by registered entities for certification and/ or approval.

Ms. Markowitz joined the CFTC in 2005, where she held other positions in the Division of Market Oversight.

Prior to joining the CFTC, Ms. Markowitz was a senior attorney at the Federal Communications Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Ms. Markowitz also was a partner in private practice with a focus on commercial litigation in areas including antitrust, environmental protection and insurance coverage. Ms. Markowitz received a Juris Doctor degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin.
