Nabeela Rasheed, Ph.D., is a legal counselor of choice for companies seeking to identify, protect and maximize the value of their intellectual property portfolios. Through effective patent prosecution and IP portfolio management, Dr. Rasheed helps clients secure the creative assets they have developed through their own research and development initiatives. She also advises clients in the acquisition and protection of intellectual property developed through joint ventures and strategic alliances, and conducts IP due diligence in relation to mergers, acquisitions and other transactions. To help clients minimize the likelihood of IP-related disputes, she regularly negotiates and documents robust licensing and other agreements.

As a highly trained biochemist — and a patent agent for nearly 10 years before earning her law degree — Dr. Rasheed has an extraordinary understanding of the technologies, laws and regulatory processes that play a role in the marketability and success of agricultural, biological, medical and pharmaceutical products. She has extensive experience with opposition practice in Europe as well as regularly represents clients in patent reexaminations, inter partes reviews and post-grant reviews.

Dr. Rasheed represents Fortune 500, multinational companies whose products involve a broad range of traditional and emerging technologies. Over the course of her career, she has come up against and resolved nearly every form of patent prosecution problem a business can face. Dr. Rasheed also understands the complex interplay between U.S. patent law and that of other jurisdictions, and helps clients develop and execute effective, truly global IP strategies. To further help clients achieve their business goals, she often works closely with and directs teams of senior lawyers, associates, outside experts and other consultants whose combined skills and focused knowledge can help a company avoid missteps and exploit opportunities. In addition, Dr. Rasheed serves as an independent consultant in matters involving inventorship and priority of invention issues.

As biosimilars and generic pharmaceuticals have been subject to increased regulatory and legislative action, Dr. Rasheed has emerged at the forefront of lawyers helping clients address the maze of legal, technical, research and manufacturing issues surrounding biological therapeutics and follow-on biologics. She also helps businesses ensure compliance with IP-related issues that have arisen following the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
