NJ Basic CLE Marathon FAQ



 

  • What are the New Jersey Newly Admitted (NA) CLE requirements?


    Newly admitted attorneys in New Jersey must take 15 of the 24 required credits in five of the following nine Newly Admitted (NA) categories:



    • NA1 - NJ Basic Estate Administration
    • NA2 - NJ Basic Estate Planning
    • NA3 - NJ Civil or Criminal Trial Preparation
    • NA4 - NJ Family Law Practice
    • NA5 - NJ Real Estate Closing Procedures
    • NA6 - NJ Trust & Business Accounting
    • NA7 - NJ Landlord/Tenant Practice
    • NA8 - NJ Municipal Court Practice
    • NA9 - NJ Law Office Management

     

    More information can be found at Regulations of the Board on Continuing Legal Education BCLE Reg 201:2.

     

    It is important to note that at least 12 of the 24 credits must be earned through live seminars. You may earn the remaining credits through alternative verifiable learning formats (e.g., Webcasts, On-Demand web programs, etc.) according to NJ BCLE Reg 201:8. Of the 24 credits, at least four credits must be in ethics and/or professionalism per NJ BCLE Reg 201:1.

     

  • May I fulfill my NJ Newly Admitted attorney requirements through the New Jersey Basic CLE Marathon 2016 and New Jersey Basic CLE Marathon 2017 programs?


    Yes! If you take both programs in full, you will receive 15.6 credits and fulfill seven of the nine NJ Newly Admitted (NA) categories.

     

  • What NJ Newly Admitted (NA) categories are fulfilled through New Jersey Basic CLE Marathon 2017?


    The New Jersey Basic CLE Marathon 2017 program contains 4 NJ NA categories for 7.8 credits. Credit breakdown is as follows:



    • NA2 - NJ Basic Estate Planning – 1.5 credits
    • NA3 - NJ Civil or Criminal Trial Preparation – 3.3 credits
    • NA4 - NJ Family Law Practice – 1.5 credits
    • NA9 - NJ Law Office Management – 1.5 credits

     

  • What NJ Newly Admitted (NA) categories are fulfilled through New Jersey Basic CLE Marathon 2016?


    The New Jersey Basic CLE Marathon 2016 program contains 5 NJ NA categories for 7.8 credits. Credit breakdown is as follows:



    • NA3 - NJ Civil or Criminal Trial Preparation – 2.2 credits
    • NA5 - NJ Real Estate Closing Procedures – 1.4 credits
    • NA7 - NJ Landlord/Tenant Practice – 1.4 credits
    • NA8 - NJ Municipal Court Practice – 1.4 credits
    • NA9 - NJ Law Office Management – 1.4 credits

     

  • Are the NJ Newly Admitted (NA) categories listed on the NJ CLE certificate?


    No, the NJ Newly Admitted (NA) categories are not listed on the NJ CLE certificate. New Jersey requires CLE providers to use a specific NJ MCLE Board-issued certificate that does not indicate the NJ Newly Admitted (NA) categories.

     

  • What do the Certification Credit boxes on the NJ CLE certificate mean? Should they be checked for my attendance at New Jersey Basic CLE Marathon?


    The boxes on the NJ CLE certificate denote Certification Credits, which are different from the NJ Newly Admitted (NA) requirements. The boxes should not be checked for completion of the New Jersey Basic CLE Marathon.

     

  • How do I know which NJ Newly Admitted (NA) categories are fulfilled through the New Jersey Basic CLE Marathon?


    You can check the “Credit Information” box and the “Overview” tab on the program’s web page for this information.

     

  • How will the New Jersey MCLE Board know which NJ Newly Admitted (NA) categories I have fulfilled?


    It is the responsibility of NJ attorneys to maintain their own records of the NJ Newly Admitted (NA) categories fulfilled. You can retrieve your certificates by logging into your PLI account. Direct your mouse to the “My Account” tab at the top of the page, scroll down, and click “Credit History.” Click on the respective year. You will see a list of all programs and corresponding credits
