FTI Consulting Inc
Managing Director, Strategic Communications
Washington, DC, USA

Myron Marlin is a former practicing attorney who has served as the chief spokesman and director of public affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice and communications director at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

He has more than 25 years of communications experience handling crisis and issues management; government and regulatory affairs; high-stakes litigation; and mergers and acquisitions. During that time, he has provided communications counsel in connection with dozens of Congressional hearings.

Based in Washington, D.C., Mr. Marlin is a managing director in the Strategic Communications segment at FTI Consulting. Prior to FTI Consulting, Mr. Marlin served at the SEC under Chairs Mary Jo White and Mary L. Schapiro. While there, he coordinated communications strategy on a range of issues, including the agency’s landmark policy of seeking admissions in certain enforcement cases, and major rulemaking stemming from the Dodd-Frank Act and the JOBS Act. He also served as a key communications adviser to the SEC chair, and counseled senior officials through Congressional testimony, media interviews and other public engagements.

Previously, he was a senior vice president at a public affairs agency, handling crisis and litigation communications across a host of industries. Mr. Marlin began his career in Washington at the DOJ, where he led the media operations at the department, as well as oversaw the communications efforts of the various law enforcement components — including the DEA, FBI and INS.

During his tenure, Mr. Marlin provided communications counsel to the U.S. attorney general on such high-profile matters as the Elian Gonzalez case; the Microsoft litigation; the appointment of Independent Counsels and the U.S. Navy’s reacquisition of Vieques, Puerto Rico. Upon his departure, Attorney General Janet Reno awarded him the prestigious Edmond J. Randolph Award for Outstanding Service.

Before his career in Washington, Mr. Marlin was an associate at the New York law firm, Tenzer Greenblatt Fallon & Kaplan, focusing on bankruptcy and financial litigation.

Mr. Marlin serves on the Dean's Advisory Council at American University’s Washington College of Law.  He also served as a graduate-level adjunct professor on crisis communications at Johns Hopkins University.
