Managing Director, Corporate Governance
Washington, DC, USA

Mike Lubrano is Managing Director for Corporate Governance of Cartica Capital, an emerging markets fund manager with more than US$200 million under management. Cartica takes large minority stakes in a concentrated portfolio of mostly public companies and adds value by working cooperatively with controllers, management and other shareholders to remove obstacles to operational efficiency and multiple expansion through improvements in corporate governance.  Prior to joining Cartica in December 2007, Mr. Lubrano was the founder and Manager of the Corporate Governance Unit of International Finance Corporation. Under his direction, the unit developed the IFC Corporate Governance Methodology, which is used by IFC and other development finance institutions to assess the quality of governance of potential clients and to identify opportunities to add value to client companies by improving their boards, control environment, transparency and disclosure practices, and treatment of financial stakeholders. Mike has advised ministries, regulators, stock exchanges and investors on governance matters and conducted detailed assessments of the governance of financial and commercial institutions worldwide. He is internationally recognized as a leader in fostering good corporate governance practices in emerging markets. Since its inception in 2000 until 2007, Mike was the co-organizer with the OECD of the Latin America Corporate Governance Roundtable and was the co-draftsman with the OECD's Mats Isaksson of its White Paper on Corporate Governance in Latin America, issued in 2004.

He received his A.B. magna cum laude from Harvard College; his J.D. cum laude from New York University School of Law; and his M.P.A. from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University.
