Michelle Sherman is a senior corporate counsel in Farmers' legal department, and works with outside counsel on litigation matters involving Farmers' entities.  Michelle also serves as a member of the legal department's Social Media Practice Group, and as a member of the Global Knowledge Network on Social Media which is comprised of attorneys from Zurich and Farmers.

Michelle has more than 23 years of litigation and trial experience, and has handled litigation matters for businesses, partnerships and Fortune 500 companies ranging from breach of contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, employment discrimination, trademark disputes, unfair competition, price fixing, fradulent conveyance, class action claims, and tortious interference with contract before state and federal courts.  Desiring to represent her clients better, Michelle improved her skills as a trial attorney by working as an assistant public defender in Los Angeles for a year, and also continues to serve as a faculty member for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) teaching trial and deposition skills to attorneys.

Michelle is well versed in social media law, and has been advising businesses on their use of social media and the Internet, and the use of social media by their employees for a number of years.  Michelle's articles on social media legal issues have been published in various legal publications, including the California Lawyer magazine, the Cyberspace Lawyer (Thomson/Reuters), Journal of Internet Law, and Business Law News (State Bar of California).  Michelle has also been on a speaker on social media legal issues at CLE conferences for attorneys and judges. 

Michelle is also an adjunct professor at USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism where she teaches the ethical and legal foundations of strategic public relations.
