Louisville, KY, USA

Michelle Browning Coughlin is a partner in Wyatt Tarrant & Combs’ Louisville office, where she serves on the Intellectual Property Protection & Litigation Service Team, as well as the Data Privacy and Security and Health Care teams.  Michelle serves as the Chair of the Wyatt Women’s Network, leading the firm’s commitment to gender diversity in the legal profession and strong leadership of women lawyers at the firm and in the community.

Michelle’s practice involves assisting her clients with a wide variety of intellectual property, privacy, and technology law issues, including trademark, copyright, trade secret, mobile app and website privacy, compliance with privacy regulations, including HIPAA, end user licensing agreements, and more.

Michelle has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” in Intellectual Property since 2013; and by Louisville Magazine as a “Top Lawyer” in the areas of Trademark Law; Privacy Information Law; and Technology Law.  Michelle was also selected as one of Louisville Business First’s Forty Under 40 in 2013.

In 2013, based on her own experiences of being a mom and a lawyer, Michelle founded MothersEsquire®.  Starting informally as a small group of Louisville lawyers, MothersEsquire has now grown to more than 2200 members nationwide and is recognized as an official Bar Association in Kentucky.  MothersEsquire serves as a networking and advocacy organization, promoting policies and practices that recognize and accommodate attorneys' family needs–whether moms or dads or other caregivers—and creating a referral, resource, and learning network for mom-lawyers across the country.

Michelle was selected as a diversity scholar to the ABA’s National Conference of Bar Presidents in 2016, where she currently serves as a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and as Vice-Chair of the Communications Committee.  Michelle also serves as a member of the Kentucky Bar Association Diversity in the Profession Committee.

In addition to her law degree, Michelle also holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and a master’s degree in social work.
