Michele Herman

Michele's practice at Davis Wright Tremaine focuses on technology standards, open source software and technology and patent licensing. Before joining Davis Wright Tremaine, Michele formed and managed both the Corporate Standards Strategy and Intellectual Property Strategy teams at Microsoft, where she held several positions including that of Associate General Counsel in its IP and Licensing Group and also Senior Director of Intellectual Property Strategy. She has unique expertise in negotiating numerous complex intellectual property policies for standards setting organizations involving multiple parties and has been instrumental in the creation of several standards setting organizations and other technical development communities. Michele is an adjunct professor at Seattle University School of Law where she co-teaches a course on standards and open source software. Michele has also held several leadership roles on standards and open source committees in organizations such as the ABA, AIPLA and IPO. She received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University, her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, and is registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
