Michael Sposato is Deputy General Counsel of Caterpillar Inc. He joined Caterpillar in 1994 and has held various positions within its Legal Services Division, starting in San Diego, California supporting a subsidiary that manufactures and sells gas turbines. His subsequent positions included running a legal office in Belgium to support this subsidiary’s operations in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East from 1996 until 2000 and then moving to Nashville, Tennessee to support Caterpillar’s Financial Products Division until 2002. Mr. Sposato relocated in 2002 to England where he managed the Caterpillar U.K. Legal Services Group. He returned to Nashville in 2005 as General Counsel for the Financial Products Division and has responsibility for the global legal affairs of Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation and Caterpillar Insurance Corporation and their subsidiaries and affiliates. In 2006, Mr. Sposato helped lead the development of Caterpillar’s pro bono program. He participates in the program through working on individual matters as well as through active involvement on the program’s steering committee. Mr. Sposato has received recognition for his efforts from both the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands and the Tennessee Bar Association. Mr. Sposato received a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service magna cum laude from Georgetown University and he received his Juris Doctor with honors from Georgetown University Law Center where he was an editor of Law and Policy in International Business. Mr. Sposato practiced law with Ballard Spahr LLP in Philadelphia for five years prior to joining Caterpillar.
