Michael A. Conley is the Solicitor at the Securities and Exchange Commission, a position that he has held since October 2015.  In that position, Mr. Conley oversees the Appellate Litigation and Bankruptcy Group.  He came to the Commission in October 2000 and served as a member of the Appellate Group until 2011, when he became a Deputy General Counsel.  Mr. Conley joined the Commission’s staff from Pillsbury Madison & Sutro LLP , where he had been a partner in the firm’s Washington, DC  office. 

Mr. Conley graduated in 1989 from Boston University School of Law, where he was editor-in-chief of the law review.  He clerked for Judge Abner J. Mikva of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and for Associate Justice Harry A. Blackmun of the Supreme Court of the United States.
