Melissa A. Brennan is the Supervising Immigrants’ Rights Attorney with the Community Development Project of the Urban Justice Center. Until recently she served as Deputy Director of the Anti-Trafficking Initiative at Sanctuary for Families where she represented foreign-born victims of human trafficking on immigration matters. A recognized expert in the field of human trafficking, Melissa has trained judges, government officials, law enforcement, pro bono attorneys, community-based organizations, and healthcare providers on trafficking issues. In 2014, Melissa founded the Trafficking Intervention Pro Bono Project, which provides free immigration legal services to foreign-born defendants in New York’s Human Trafficking Intervention Courts. Melissa previously served as a Program Associate at the Center on Immigration and Justice at the Vera Institute of Justice and a legal fellow and consultant with the United Nations Interagency Project on Human Trafficking in Bangkok. Melissa holds a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School and a Bachelor of the Arts in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh.
