Megan J. Hertzler is the Director of Information Governance for Xcel Energy, a combination electricity and natural gas utility providing retail service in 8 Midwestern states with annual revenues in excess of $10 billion. Megan is responsible for forming the strategy, policy and compliance programs protecting all sensitive information held by the company for the eight states in which it operates. Prior to this role, Megan provided legal counsel to Xcel Energy on maters related to data privacy and utility regulation as an Assistant General Counsel and Director of Data Privacy. 

Before joining Xcel Energy in 2002, Megan was an associate with the law firm of Moss & Barnett, PA in Minneapolis, Minnesota, an Assistant Attorney General in the Minnesota Office of the Attorney General, and counsel to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.

Megan has twice received Xcel Energy's Individual of Excellence award for her work both internally and externally to promote inclusion in the legal profession. Her work as president of Minnesota Women Lawyers was also recognized by Minnesota Lawyer with their 2010 Attorney of the Year award. 

Megan is a 1997 graduate of William Mitchell College of Law, where she served as an Associate Editor on its law review. She lives with her husband in St. Paul, Minnesota where they maintain an extensive urban garden.
