Maya Williamson, LMSW

Sanctuary for Families
Adult Counselor, Non-Residential Program
New York, NY, USA

Maya Williamson graduated from Columbia School of Social Work in May 2014 after spending two years working with adults living with HIV/AIDs. During her time tutoring these clients participating in a job training program, Maya became acutely aware of the multiple traumas they had endured and how they informed their well-being. Ultimately, it was the passion for this work that led Maya to pursue her master’s degree in social work. Her chosen second year internship at Sanctuary for Families only furthered her interest in supporting trauma-survivors. Since, Maya has been providing trauma-focused therapeutic counseling to adults who have survived domestic violence and other forms of gender-based violence.
