Matt Nevins is the General Counsel of Geode Capital Management, where he oversees all legal and regulatory aspects of Geode’s activities.  Geode is a Boston-based asset manager providing global investment solutions focusing on the following strategies: equity index, active quantitative equity, commodities, options and alternatives.  Geode advises registered and private funds, as well as institutional and retail managed accounts.

Prior to joining Geode in early 2015, Matt acted as lead attorney for the Asset Management Group (AMG) of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), covering all legal and regulatory issues impacting the asset management industry, including derivatives regulation and market structure, equity market structure, tri-party repo reform, municipal securities, the Volcker rule, systemic regulation, benchmarks, money market fund reform and securitization issues, among other things.  In this capacity, Matt oversaw the AMG Derivatives, Equity Market Structure, Securities Financing Transactions and Municipal Advisor Committees.

Before joining SIFMA AMG, Matt spent almost 12 years as a lawyer in various roles at Fidelity Investments, including the lead lawyer for Fidelity Asset Management Equity Division’s derivatives and trading activities, the dedicated lawyer for Fidelity’s Structured Credit Group, the primary lawyer for Fidelity’s asset servicing business and a corporate lawyer providing support on business transactions across the Fidelity enterprise.  He served as the chair of the SIFMA AMG derivatives committee from 2010 through the beginning of 2013 and was a member of the National Future Association’s Swap Dealer Advisory Committee and the ABA Task Force on Investment Company Use of Derivatives and Leverage.

Matt began his legal career as an associate at the Boston law firm of Palmer & Dodge LLP.  Matt is a graduate of the University of Connecticut, summa cum laude, and Boston College Law School, cum laude.
