Mary Rothwell Davis is an attorney in New York City with over 30 years’ experience as an appellate lawyer, with much of her practice focused on domestic violence.  Most recently, she has edited the sixth edition of the Lawyer’s Manual on Domestic Violence.

She began her career at The Legal Aid Society, and after nearly a decade in its Criminal Appeals Bureau served as Principal Court Attorney to Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye of the New York Court of Appeals.  In 2001, she helped establish the first Integrated Domestic Violence Court, in Bronx County, as court attorney to the late Hon. Ruth Levine Sussman.  She has also handled multiple appeals for Sanctuary for Families’ Center for Battered Women’s Legal Services, and was Project Attorney for the National Judicial Program’s webcourse for state court judges, Intimate Partner Sex Abuse: Adjudicating this Hidden Dimension of Domestic Violence.   She is chair of the New York State Interest on Lawyers’ Account [IOLA] Fund.
