Mary Hutchings Reed is an attorney with more than thirty-six years of experience in advertising, marketing, copyright, trademark, and entertainment law, and she is Best Lawyers' "Lawyer of the Year 2012" in Advertising Law for Chicago. She is the author of three books about law and numerous legal articles and has spoken frequently in her field. Her 456-page book, The IEG Legal Guide to Sponsorship, was the first of its kind on the subject of sponsorship law, and is still the leading treatise on the subject. Her other books are The Legal Guide to Cause Marketing and The Copyright Primer for Librarians and Educators. She has also authored a set of sponsorship contracts available on disk from IEG, Chicago.

 A 1976 graduate of the Yale Law School, Mary also holds bachelors and masters degrees from Brown University in Public Policy Making and Economics. She began her career at Sidley & Austin, Chicago, where she became partner in 1983. She joined Winston & Strawn, Chicago, in 1989 to help start the firm's Intellectual Property practice. During her career, she has represented many consumer products companies and their advertising, promotion, and event sponsorship agencies, including Anheuser-Busch Companies, Cramer-Krasselt, Pizza Hut, Rubin Postaer & Associates, DDB Needham, Draft FCB, Muhammad Ali, and Don King Productions.
 
 In January 2011, Mary was honored with the Esther Rothstein Award from the Women's Bar Association of Illinois for her visionary career and her mentoring of women lawyers. Mary has served on the board of Lawyers for the Creative Arts for many years, and also earned that organization's Thomas Leavens Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts. She currently serves on the executive committee of the board of directors of the Legal Assistance Foundation and on the board of the Steel Beam Theatre. In the past she served on the boards of the American Civil Liberties of Illinois, the Chicago Bar Foundation, the Off the Street Club, YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, and WBEZ Public Radio. Mary is listed in Leading Lawyers Network, Chambers, and "The Best Lawyers in America" (Media Law, Advertising Law). She has taught entertainment law at Columbia College Graduate Program in Arts, Entertainment, and Media and at Northwestern University School of Law.
