Mark Donohue is an Assistant Director in the United States Securities and Exchange Commission's Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations, where he has worked since 2000. Mark focuses his efforts on the oversight of self-regulatory organizations with an emphasis on trading practices. His experience includes inspections and examinations of exchanges, registered securities associations, broker-dealers, municipal securities dealers, investment advisers and investment companies, alternative trading systems, and credit rating agencies.

Mark is the co-lead of OCIE's Specialized Working Group on Market Structure and Trading Practices, and he is a member of the SEC's cross-divisional working group on the consolidated audit trail proposal.  Mark recently played a critical role in joint SEC-CFTC staff report on the "Flash Crash" of May 6, 2010, for which he received the Chairman's Award for Excellence.

Mark began his legal career in Rockville, Maryland, first as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable William C. Miller in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland and then as an associate at Miles & Stockbridge PC. Mark graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review.
