Mark Hayes is a Canadian copyright, privacy, and technology lawyer, practicing at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP in Toronto. Mark has extensive experience with the Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and the federal Privacy Commissioner and has advised on and litigated privacy and access-to-information issues for a variety of public- and private-sector clients. He has written and lectured extensively in Canada and abroad on issues relating to privacy, copyright, entertainment law, technology, and the Internet. Mr. Hayes was a co-author of The Cyberspace Is Not a “No Law Land,” a landmark 1997 study commissioned by Industry Canada on copyright liability on the Internet. He has developed and taught a number of law school courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including the innovative “E Regulation” course for the Osgoode Hall LL.M. in E-Business.
