Dr. Hopkins has over 10 years experience as a scientist and project leader in the chemical industry and over 15 years experience in law. Before practicing law, Mark was a senior scientist at DowAgroSciences, adjunct chemistry faculty at Indiana-University-Purdue University at Indianapolis, and an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University. He is the author of a number of peer-reviewed scientific publications. Mark also has over 15 years experience in law. Prior to joining NIBR, Mark was Vice President and Assistant General Counsel at Threshold Pharmaceuticals, Inc. a Partner at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP, and a patent agent at Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP. Mark’s ability to communicate with both inventors and corporate officers allows him to understand the business value of intellectual property and translate his client’s ideas into patents and grow their market-position.

Mark’s knowledge of a companies’ product life cycle allows him to foresee common IP pitfalls and provide comprehensive IP strategies for clients who want to grow their investment in R & D into profits. With his extensive background in chemistry and intellectual property law, Mark has a solid track record of developing patent portfolios that protect client’s products and are licensed by third parties. Mark’s knowledge of changes in IP law and life science technology allows him to provide the best strategies for protecting clients IP and preventing entry of competitors.
