Margaret C. Liu

Conference of State Bank Supervisors
Senior Vice President, Legislative & Deputy General Counsel
Washington, DC, USA

Margaret Liu is Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS). She is a member of CSBS's legal and legislative team. In this role, she represents the policy priorities of CSBS to Congress and provides legal support across CSBS and its affiliated organizations.

In the aftermath of the financial crisis, Liu was part of a team that worked with federal regulators and lawmakers on behalf of state banking departments as Congress considered proposals to overhaul America's financial regulatory system. Her efforts in representing the policy perspectives of state banking departments and promoting the importance of America's dual-banking system were realized in the passage of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which reaffirmed the importance of checks and balances between state and federal regulators.

Prior to joining CSBS, Liu worked as a consultant on financial services policy issues for a variety of financial services and housing finance clients. Before establishing a consultancy in 2007, Liu worked at Fannie Mae for 10 years, where she held several positions, including Vice President in the Single Family Mortgage Business and Vice President for Industry Relations.

Prior to joining Fannie Mae, Liu was an attorney with Hogan & Hartson, L.L.P. She also served in the Office of Congressional Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. Liu received her J.D. from the University of Chicago and her A.B. from Harvard College.

Margaret lives in Arlington, Virginia with her husband and her three daughters.
