Lisa Beckerman is a partner in the New York office of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. Her practice focuses on corporate restructuring and creditors’ rights in a variety of areas, including energy, media, manufacturing, aviation and real estate.

She represents debtors, informal groups of creditors and official creditors committees in chapter 11 cases and in out-of-court restructurings. Her recent cases include FirstEnergy Solutions Corp. (as debtor), Jack Cooper Holdings (ad hoc senior secured lenders), Avaya Inc. (ad hoc first lien lenders), Stone Energy Corporation (ad hoc noteholders), MediaNews Group (acquisition of Boston Herald) and Walter Energy, Inc. (ad hoc first lien lenders).

Lisa is frequently recognized as leading lawyer in restructuring and insolvency. She is, for example, recognized by Chambers USA, Legal 500, The Who’s Who Legal: Insolvency and Restructuring, Benchmark Litigation and Practical Law. She is regularly enlisted to speak at key industry events and has written extensively on key restructuring and insolvency matters.

Lisa currently serves on the board of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Dean’s Advisory Board for Boston University School of Law, and is a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy.

Lisa has a B.A. from the University of Chicago and a M.B.A. from the University of Texas. She graduated from the Boston University School of Law in 1989.
