Lev L. Dassin is a partner at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, where his practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, white collar criminal defense, regulatory enforcement matters, and internal investigations. Before joining Cleary, Mr. Dassin was the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. In that position, he oversaw a number of high profile matters, including the prosecutions of Bernard Madoff and Marc Dreier, as well as the representation of the United States’ interest in the Chrysler and General Motors bankruptcy proceedings.  Mr. Dassin previously served as Deputy United States Attorney and the Chief of the Criminal Division for the Southern District of New York.  Earlier, as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in that office, Mr. Dassin prosecuted a wide array of cases and was a lead prosecutor in the investigation and prosecution of Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind of the 1993 terrorist bombing of the World Trade Center.  Mr. Dassin is an adjunct faculty member of Columbia Law School.  He graduated from New York University School of Law and clerked for the Honorable David N. Edelstein, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York.
