Kenya Ramirez Silva

The Door

New York, NY, USA

Kenya Ramirez Silva was born in 1995 and immigrated to the United States when she was 10 years old, along with her mother and older brother. She became a permanent resident in 2012 with assistance from the Door’s Legal Services Center. She graduated from Telecommunications Arts and Technology High School and is now enrolled at the Borough of Manhattan Community College where she is majoring in criminal justice. She aspires to be a lawyer for women’s rights violations in the future.

In addition to working with kindergarten children in an after school center in her community, in her free time, she also volunteers in an organization called Mixteca located in Brooklyn New York. This organization’s mission is to empower the Mexican and Latin-American immigrants by providing them access to services to help enhance their quality of life. Kenya Ramirez is more than happy to share with you her experiences as an Immigrant Juvenile and the immense impact that obtaining a green card did for someone like herself.
