Kathleen McGee is presently Chief of the Bureau of Internet & Technology for the New York State Attorney General’s Office.  The Bureau of Internet & Technology is responsible for the enforcement of New York’s privacy and consumer protection laws in the online and technology environment, as well as for enforcement of New York’s data breach notification laws.  The office has investigated a wide range of issues affecting the internet, including spyware, spam, online privacy, child safety, gambling, free speech and fraud. Recent investigations have included Daily Fantasy Sports, Broadband Internet Speeds, the online sale of tickets to events, and the teen chat website, Ask.fm.  Previously, Kathleen was the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement for the City of New York, where she focused on the policy and civil enforcement of quality of life issues such as illegal hotels and counterfeit trademark activity as well as developing policy initiatives for the Criminal Justice Coordinator’s Office.  During that time, Kathleen also co-developed the New Business Acceleration Team, a multi-agency initiative that simplified governmental process and procedure for new businesses and streamlined new business openings.  Prior to her work for the Mayor’s Office, Kathleen served for over six years as a prosecutor of sex crimes, child abuse and domestic violence for the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office.  Kathleen was also a co-developer and program coordinator of the Chicago Public Housing Recycling Buy-Back Program, an initiative she started as an AmeriCorps VISTA in the 1990s.  Kathleen is a graduate of Boston University School of Law, the University of Chicago, and Sarah Lawrence College.
