Karla G. Sanchez is the Executive Deputy Attorney General for Economic Justice for the New York State Attorney General’s Office and is responsible for the Attorney General’s agenda on issues involving Antitrust, Consumer Frauds and Protection, the Internet, Investor Protection and Real Estate Finance.  Ms. Sanchez joined the office in 2011.

Immediately prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, Ms. Sanchez was a litigation partner at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP.  She successfully litigated before courts and arbitration panels throughout the country representing both plaintiffs and defendants involving a broad range of products and disciplines, including residential mortgage-backed securities, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and consumer products.  She was the first Hispanic partner at Patterson Belknap and has been recognized as one of Crain’s New York Business’s 40 Under Forty.  Prior to joining Patterson Belknap, Ms. Sanchez served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Deborah A. Batts, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.  She received her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law cum laude and Order of the Coif, and an A.B. from Columbia University. 

Ms. Sanchez is a member of the Policy Committee for the Departmental Disciplinary Committee of the First Department, New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division as well as a member of the Executive Committee for the New York City Bar. 

Ms. Sanchez is the co-founder of an informal networking group for Hispanic women called the “cafecitos,” which boasts 700 members.  She is also the co-founder of a second informal networking group for law firm partners and senior in-house counsel.  She was the former Vice Chair of the Board for LatinoJustice: PRLDEF and a former member of the Advisory Board of Legal Outreach.  She is also a member of the Dominican Bar Association, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the Federal Bar Council Inn of Court and Fordham University School of Law's Dean's Planning Council.  Ms. Sanchez has the good fortune to be bestowed with a number of Awards including the NYC Bar’s Diversity Champion Award; Dominican Bar Association Honoree; and the Puerto Rican Legal Defense & Education Fund, Lucero Award.
