Justine Kirby

Justine Kirby has worked as an investment advisory lawyer at Morgan Stanley, and then Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, since 2005. She has covered programs for separately managed accounts (SMAs), unified managed accounts (UMAs), institutional consulting, mutual fund asset allocation and proprietary discretionary management. She has also prepared Forms ADV, advised the manager due diligence department and worked extensively on performance composite issues. In 2008, Justine authored Morgan Stanley's response to the SEC's proposals to amend the Form ADV rules, and is now working on Morgan Stanley Smith Barney's new forms of ADV Part 2 and the brochure supplements.

Justine worked at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP for several years, focusing primarily on mergers and acquisitions (including many transactions in the investment management industry). Before that, she was a lawyer in New Zealand with broad experience in corporations, securities, regulatory, antitrust, contract and public law issues.

Justine has a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School, and Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honors and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. She has published various articles in law reviews and legal journals, and is admitted in New York and several foreign jurisdictions.
