Julie Spellman Sweet is a partner in the Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP Corporate Department. Julie’s practice consists primarily of public and private financings, representing underwriters, private equity funds and corporate clients.  She also has substantial experience executing spin-offs for corporate clients and mergers and acquisitions and general corporate work for corporate clients, private equity funds and their portfolio companies.

Julie’s financing practice includes both global and domestic transactions.  Julie represented the underwriters in the $5 billion initial global offering of KKR Private Equity Investors, L.P., which was completed in May 2006.  Julie was recognized as one of the “Dealmakers of the Year” for 2006 by The American Lawyer for her work on the KKR transaction.  Julie also was recognized in 2007 and 2008 by Lawdragon magazine as one of the top 500 leading lawyers in America.

Julie recently chaired the “Private Equity 2009: What You Need to Know Now” conference, presented by West Legalworks.

Julie is a member of the Board of Trustees for Claremont McKenna College.  She also is a member of the Kate Stoneman Project, a leadership group for women law partners.  Julie speaks Mandarin Chinese and has spent substantial time in Hong Kong and China.

Julie was born in Orange, California.  She received a B.A. from Claremont McKenna College in 1989, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1992, where she was a Stone Scholar.  Julie joined Cravath in 1992 and became a partner in 2000.
