Juanita Wing

Queens County Family Court
Court Attorney Referee
Jamaica, NY, USA

Juanita Elaine Wing was born and raised in New York City. Among her many educational achievements, she pursued dreams of becoming an attorney. Ms. Wing graduated Cum Laude from St. John’s University with a Baccalaureate Degree in Paralegal Studies. Not wanting to remain behind the scenes in the legal field, she then attended St. John’s University School of Law and graduated in 1997 with her Juris Doctor Degree. During her studies at St. John’s University she balanced her education and raising her first daughter. Tragically in 1998, after suffering the devastating loss of her daughter, Ms. Wing used that tragedy to dedicate her life to the betterment of children and the practice of law relating to children and the various issues in their lives. After graduation from Law School, Ms. Wing worked as an attorney in private sector real estate law for a few years.  Feeling unfulfilled, Ms. Wing changed her focus back to family law in the public interest sector.

In 2000, Ms. Wing became a Staff Attorney for the New York City Administration for Children’s Services, prosecuting abuse and neglect cases in New York County Family Court. In late 2001, she utilized all of her acquired advocacy skills and became a defense attorney for cases involving families at District Council 37 Municipal Employees Legal Services Plan. While serving as a Staff Attorney at the Union for five years, she wanted to do more for children. In late 2006, Ms. Wing opened her own private family law practice in Jamaica, Queens, as well as, joined the Court Appointed Counsel Panel in Queens County Family Court. Joining the “Panel” enabled Ms. Wing to not only represent indigent parents, but also to do what she loved most, representing the innocent children involved in these Family Court cases. In 2010, Ms. Wing was given a great opportunity in her career, to become a Court Attorney Referee for the New York City Family Court. She served on the Bench in Bronx County from 2010 to late 2014. She then transferred to Queens County Family Court, where she presently presides over custody, visitation, guardianship and family offense cases. Serving the families of New York City as a Court Attorney Referee has been one of the most rewarding experiences in her legal career.

Despite a busy schedule balancing work, marriage, and motherhood once again with the birth of her second daughter, Ms. Wing has continued her dedication to children, and volunteers for many community service projects including donating toys for the past eighteen years to critically ill and hospitalized children during the winter holidays. As a way of giving back to the community for all Ms. Wing has accomplished, she also volunteers her time by teaching legal principles to children at the St. John’s University Summer Legal Outreach Program and lectures at various community health and legal forums. Ms. Wing is also a registered Girl Scout Leader and an active member in her church.
