Attorney Castillo Chacón graduated with honors (magna cum laude) as an Attorney and Notary from Universidad Francisco Marroquín and has a master in law (Magistri in Legibus) from Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

He has great experience in energetic, financial and acquisition matters. Has participated in some of the biggest acquisitions in the history of Guatemala, such as the Process of Disincorporation of Generation Assets from Empresa Eléctrica de Guatemala, S.A. from 1996 to 1998; the Social Capitalization and Sale of Shares (80%) from the same company on the year 2009; the acquisition of all the assets of Shell in Central America in the year 2009; and a percentage of the entity Royal Forest Holding (RFH) and its subsidiaries in Guatemalan Jurisdiction, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica in the year 2010, within many other projects.

From 1996 to 1997 he participated as legal advisor for the elaboration of the Regulations of the General Law of Electricity and the Regulations of the Administrator of the Wholesale Market. Likewise, in the year 1996 to this date, he has been an External Legal Advisor to EEGSA. From the year 2006 to 2007, he has the Director of the Administrator of the Wholesale Market.


He participated in the incursion of the hydroelectric sector on behalf of Iberdrola Energía, S.A. in the project named Río Bobos which includes the entities (Hidronorte, Genhidro and Mosa) jointly with Fabrigas. He also participated in the sale of the project on behalf of Iberdrola to Empresas Públicas de Medellín E.S.P. and EPM Inversiones, S.A. in the year 2010. He participated in the Due Diligence of the hydroelectric project “Las Vacas”. He participated in the negotiation of the first long term contract of the Regional Electric Market. In the Geothermic Cerro Blanco Project he participated in obtaining the licenses and definite authorization to begin operations.

Regarding disputes of energy matters, he participated in the arbitration presented by Iberdrola Energía, S.A. against the Government of Guatemala.

Negotiation in possible arbitration to be begun by Hidro Xacbal, S.A. against Deocsa and Deorsa for conflicts in events cataloged as Force Majeure.

He has been a Director in the Board of Directors of Bolsa de Valores Nacional, S.A. since the year 1993 to this day, has developed several posts thereto, within them, he has been Secretary (1993-2000); President of the Board of Directors (2000 to 2006).

In the year 2000, he was part of the group which made studies and analysis of the bill of the Banking and Financial Groups Law as an advisor to the Guatemalan Bank Association.
He has been a local advisor for syndicated loans granted by Citibank, JP Morgan, Export Development Canada, within others.

In the year 2006, he founded the law firm Aguilar Castillo Love, as a result of the merger between two acknowledged firms in Costa Rica and Guatemala.

Aguilar Castillo Love is a Central American firm which provides a consisting professional service of high quality level to international and multi-jurisdictional clients in each country of the region and beyond.
