Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP
Partner, Forensic & Dispute Services
San Jose, CA, USA

Joe Zier is a Forensic and Dispute Services partner with Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP (Deloitte FAS) and serves as the National Technology Sector Leader for Deloitte FAS. Joe merges a business conscious view with the role of a forensic accounting advisor, and teams with internal and external counsel frequently.

With over 30 years of experience in forensic investigations, Joe focuses on helping clients with regulatory compliance, M&A diligence, FCPA risk mitigation, and third party channel management, as well as general forensic investigations. He is also the leader of the firm's new product focusing on automated third party diligence and risk assessment. Prior to joining Deloitte FAS, Joe led the ethics and compliance function at an US$80 billion global Fortune 50 technology company, where he led the implementation of an effective ethics and compliance infrastructure and investigated significant global matters. He has been involved with more than 1000 investigations and civil litigation matters, the majority of which were international in scope.

Joe has also been President and acting CEO for an intellectual property commercialization start-up. Prior to that, Joe was a partner at a large, global accounting and consulting firm, where he was involved in a variety of client solution-driven businesses, including national and international forensic investigations, intellectual property licensing and commercialization and leading their channel management practice. He held several leadership positions at that firm, including National Director of the Forensic practice and Chairman of the firm's International Forensic Network. During that period, he started that firm's channel distribution and royalty and licensing practices, and personally led more than 100 third party inspections related to sales and distribution channel issues.

Joe's experience centers around working collaboratively with clients on national and global forensic investigation and litigation support matters and helping them resolve complex risk, ethical and compliance issues affecting their organization. Joe focuses on reconstruction of economic and business reality and presenting relevant evidence in a manner to assist the trier of fact in their decision making process. His work became the basis for "The Expert Accountant in Civil Litigation," a textbook Joe authored that is used to teach forensic accounting at several Canadian universities. Joe is a frequent speaker on forensic, FCPA, third party channel management and corporate ethics issues.
