Joseph Petro is the Managing Director of Citigroup Security and Investigative Services. Since 1993, he has been responsible for fraud prevention and investigations, physical security and executive protection for Citigroup and its worldwide subsidiary and legacy companies.

From 1971 to 1993, Joe was a special agent and senior executive with the United States Secret Service where he served in numerous operational and management positions. He supervised the Presidential, Vice Presidential and Dignitary Protective Divisions and the Washington Field Office. Earlier in his career, Joe had been assigned to investigations, intelligence, training, internal affairs and public affairs. He also was selected as Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury, where he advised and assisted department officials on financial crime enforcement policy and worked with the Justice Department, Congressional committees and other federal agencies on law enforcement issues.

Prior to his career in the Secret Service, Joe was an officer in the U.S. Navy for four years. He served aboard the USS Plymouth Rock (LSD 29) and commanded River Patrol Boats (PBRs) in Vietnam assigned to River Divisions 512 and 534. Near the end of his combat tour, he served as the Senior Naval Advisor to a Vietnamese River Division.

He is the former President and member of the Board of Directors of the International Security Management Association (ISMA). He also was the Private Sector Chairman of the State Department's Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Domestic Security Alliance Council (DSAC). He is the current Vice-Chairman and member of the Board of the New York City Law Enforcement Explorers Council.

Joe is a graduate of Temple University and was a Fellow at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He is a frequent guest on television news broadcasts and documentaries and is the author of the book "Standing Next to History, An Agent's Life Inside the Secret Service" published by St. Martin's Press, January 2005.
